Professor Markham Ball

B.A., magna cum laude, Amherst; B.A., M.A., Rhodes Scholar, Oxford University; LL.B., Harvard. Professor Ball is a senior fellow at the International Law Institute where he is the director of the International Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution Programs. From 1998-2002 he was a partner at Holland & Knight LLP where he was a leader in the international arbitration practice. Prior to working at Holland & Knight, Professor Ball served as General Counsel of United States Agency for International Development and was Staff Director of the Peace Corps. He is a member of the American Arbitration Association. Professor Ball has published several articles on international arbitration and is a frequent speaker on the topic as well. Some examples of his works include: "Structuring the Arbitration in Advance-- The Arbitration Clause in an International Development Agreement," in Contemporary Problems in International Arbitration (J.D.M. Lew, ed., London, 1968) and "What is Alternative Dispute Resolution? How Can it Apply in the International Context?" International Financial Law Review (October 1989).
