Judge John J. Gibbons (Ret)
Hon. John J. Gibbons served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 1969 to 1990, including three years as Chief Judge. He authored more than 800 published opinions during his judicial service. He has extensive arbitration and mediation experience, including as Administrator of Claims for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Liability Fund (Exxon Valdez), Administrator of the Settlement Fund in SEC vs. PaineWebber, Inc., and Trustee in Cygnet Securities, Inc. He has served as President of the New Jersey State Bar Association, was on the faculty at Seton Hall University Law School from 1972 to 1997, taught at the law schools of Duke, Rutgers, and Suffolk University and has published over twenty articles on legal topics and is the recipient of many awards for leadership and pro bono service.
Mr. Gibbons, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, is a graduate of Holy Cross College (B.S. 1947) and Harvard Law School (L.L.B. 1950).
