Judge John A. Reed, Jr. (Fmr)

Hon. John A. Reed, Jr. was a judge on the U. S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, from 1973 to 1984. Prior to that he was a judge on the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal, including two years as Chief Judge, from 1967 to 1973. Since 1985, he has been associated with the firm of Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. in Orlando, Florida, where he is now of counsel. He has appeared in all of the Florida appellate courts, including the Florida Supreme Court, all of the Florida district courts, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Reed has served as a mediator in over 100 cases. He has served as an arbitrator in cases involving patent infringement, securities fraud and RICO claims against U.S. nationals by a foreign government, a claimed breach of fiduciary obligation by a securities fund manager, claims for declaratory relief under a technology and supply agreement, as well as cases involving insurance coverage, attorneys' fees, complex settlement agreements, rates payable under licensing agreements, and obligations under various agency agreements. He was also a mediator/arbitrator for the Prudential Insurance mass claims program.

His private practice has included litigation of antitrust issues, copyright and trademarks, defamation, employment discrimination, insurance coverage, legal malpractice, product liability and securities fraud.

Mr. Reed is the author of several law journal articles and was a member of the Florida Supreme Court Committee on Civil Jury Instructions (1986-1991), the Rules Committee of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida (1990-1994), and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals Lawyers Advisory Committee (1993-1996). He is a member of the American Arbitration Association panel of select arbitrators for Large Complex Cases.

Mr. Reed is a graduate of Duke University Law School (LLB 1956) and Trinity College of Duke University (A.B. 1954). He resides in Sapphire, N.C.
